Are you a freelancer (zzp'er) in Amsterdam looking for a bookkeeper who actually thinks along with you, instead of just adding up your numbers? Sophy &Co. helps entrepreneurs in Amsterdam and the surrounding area with a personal bookkeeper, one fixed point of contact, and complete bookkeeping for a fixed monthly fee.

What we take care of for you

Amsterdam attracts a wide mix of self-employed professionals, from freelancers in the creative sector to consultants for international companies. For all of them, we take care of:

  • VAT returns, filed correctly and on time every quarter
  • Income tax, including every deduction you're entitled to as a self-employed professional
  • Ongoing bookkeeping, so you're never caught off guard
  • Personal contact, by WhatsApp or phone, no call centers or waiting queues

Share your purchase and sales invoices with us, that's all you need to do. We keep an eye on the rest.

New to the Netherlands?

Amsterdam has one of the largest international and expat communities in the country, and moving here to freelance or start a business comes with a learning curve. Registering with the KVK (Chamber of Commerce) requires a BSN, and for most non-EU nationals, an in-person appointment. Once you're registered you'll usually receive a VAT (BTW) number automatically, and depending on your expected turnover, you may qualify for the KOR, a small-business scheme that exempts you from charging VAT altogether.

The tax return covering the year you moved to (or from) the Netherlands, known as the M-form, is more complex than a standard return, and if you set up a BV and pay yourself a director's salary, the 30%-ruling may still apply if you qualify as an incoming skilled migrant. We're happy to walk you through what applies to your situation, in plain English.

Why freelancers in Amsterdam choose Sophy &Co.

Amsterdam is one of the busiest and most expensive cities to run a business in as a freelancer, which makes time and a clear overview all the more valuable. Our clients choose Sophy &Co. because our own platform gets their bookkeeping done faster and more accurately than a traditional accounting firm, which keeps our prices low and our accuracy high, while the bookkeeper you talk to stays a real person, not a chatbot.

You run your business, we handle your numbers. For a fixed monthly fee, cancel any time.
